Native Beach Art Tony Robinson
Growing up on an Ohio farm, Tony Robinson eventually found himself building custom homes in Washington State. However, after two decades, his artistic side beckoned, and he began crafting handmade art items before discovering his true passion: creating chainsaw-carved statues. Robinson, who now resides in Copalis Crossing, can be found carving at his home studio and displaying his carvings along Ocean Beach Road. He specializes in carving intricate wood sculptures of natural creatures such as whales, wolves, bears, eagles, salmon, and even Bigfoot. Robinson’s favorite project to date was the depiction of a herd of wild horses, entitled “Hurricane”, carved from a piece of driftwood; he has also been commissioned to create life-size sculptures of Seahawk players. Robinson’s process begins by roughing out a shape in mature wood inside a large carving tent and then relinquishing the wood inside a smaller tent after which more delicate details are added. Robinson receives unwavering support from a variety of friends throughout the North Beach region and has donated his sculptures to various charitable events to support his community. In his independent artist journey, he continues to find joy in returning to the mountains, forests, and ocean that he now calls home.
